Dental Center Helmiäinen

Erikoishammaslääkäri, lääkäri, dosentti, tohtori Juho Suojanen Tampere

I went to school in Orivesi where I also graduated from high school. I graduated as a dentist from the University of Helsinki in 2003. I defended my thesis and got my PhD degree in dentistry in the University of Helsinki in 2009. My thesis dealt with the field of cancer biology. I graduated as a doctor in 2012 and finished my specialisation studies in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 2016. I received the docent title in oral and maxillofacial surgery in January 2020.

I have been working as a dental specialist in the cleft lip and palate department of HUS where I am currently working on a part-time basis. In addition to this, I work as the head of department in Päijät Häme Central Hospital. After my dissertation, I have done research mainly on computer-aided 3D design in occlusal rehabilitation with maxillofacial surgery methods. Alongside my own research, I supervise seven PhD students.

I am particularly interested in oral surgery, for example wisdom tooth extraction and dental implants. Thanks to my work and my research, I have plenty of experience from orthognathic surgery (i.e. corrective jaw surgery).
