I am a clinical dental care specialist, an oral radiologist. Before my specialisation, I have worked as a dentist in health centres around Finland and as a private dentist in Helsinki, Tampere and Nokia. I have completed my specialisation studies in the University of Helsinki and in the Surgical Hospital of HUS. Since 2001, I have been working in Tampere University Hospital in the radiology department or in the PSHP Medical Imaging Department where I work as the service line manager for the S-Imaging Department. Working in the University Hospital naturally includes advanced diagnostics of the facial and jaw area but my specialty is also the imaging of the paranasal sinuses.

In addition to diagnostics and department managing I also train dental specialists and conduct scientific research in addition to the Tampere University Hospital in the following places: the University of Tampere, Aalto University and Chiang Mai University (Thailand). My areas of research include imaging, especially cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), the effect of oral infections on general health, the effect of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis on temporomandibular joints, and artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in radiology. Cooperation with equipment manufacturers and software companies is also an important part of my work. It allows us to gain access to the newest technology and to do our part in helping the Finnish export industry.

In addition to my work, family and the restoration and renovation of an old farm centre respecting old building traditions are a part of my life. The main building dates back to 1845 and its restoration has been an interesting task in maintaining my manual skills. Together with my colleagues, we have made the Imaging Department of the Helmiäinen Dental Clinic the best possible. We use world class equipment made here in Finland and the staff who use it have been specifically trained for it. We use X-ray diagnostics of similar quality to specialised medical care on all our patients at a reasonable price.
